Empowering disabled ex-servicemen with employment at the Poppy Shop

The Royal British Legion is celebrating its centenary in the next year. This organization was founded in 1921 and is best known for raising funds for the Remembrance Day Poppy Appeal. It has been a proud employer of disabled ex-servicemen for over a hundred years. In addition, its poppy factory in Richmond, Surrey has recently undergone a renovation. Currently, it is run by the Royal British Legion, and 80% of its poppies are made by the disabled.

Among the many honors the Legion has received is the honour of being a partner of the Department of Employment and Learning's (DEL) Learning Disabled and Ex-Servicemen programme. These programs provide opportunities for learning-disabled people. As well as the many other benefits, these programmes also give an opportunity to employ disabled ex-servicemen who need work in order to support themselves and their families.

Another major award the Legion has been given is the Remembrance Day Poppy Appeal. According to the Legion's website, the original artificial poppy factory in London, off Old Kent Road, had five disabled workers. During the 1920s, Lady Haig set up a second factory in Edinburgh.

However, the most important part of the program is the employment of disabled ex-servicemen. While the Legion was certainly not the only organisation providing a service to this group, it was one of the most prominent.

During the war, the government devised the National Scheme for Disabled Ex-Servicemen. This program was designed by Manchester-based civil servant Henry Lesser Rothband. He developed a system to encourage employers to recruit at least five percent disabled ex-servicemen. By the mid-1920s, the scheme had a large public response, including the establishment of special villages for disabled ex-servicemen. A corresponding system for fostering job-readiness was also designed. Ultimately, the government's efforts to promote the welfare of this vulnerable segment of society led to the formation of a national charity. Today, the Royal British Legion is a proud employer of many thousands of physically and mentally disabled ex-servicemen, as well as their dependents.

Hopefully, in the coming decades, more organizations will continue to step up to the challenge.

Donating 100% of profits to the Royal British Legation

If you're interested in supporting the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal, you'll be glad to know that you can do so with just a few clicks of your mouse. The online Poppy Shop offers a range of products and special offers, all of which support the charity. In addition, you can even sign up for the Royal British Legion Arctic Challenge.

Every year, the Royal British Legion hosts fundraising events both in the UK and abroad. Money raised goes towards supporting the Armed Forces. These funds will support charities like the Battle Back Centre, which supports injured service personnel. Similarly, the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas benefits from the funds that are raised.

You can also donate to the Poppy Appeal on Amazon. Amazon is one of the biggest companies in the world, and they've been a big part of helping the Armed Forces community. It's easy to do, and you can even browse the products that Amazon has to offer. Just visit the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal page on Amazon, and you can find products to purchase. However, you'll need to make sure that you're purchasing official Poppy Appeal items, as you can't use your cash as a substitute.

One of the best places to recycle your poppy is at Sainsbury's. All profits from the sales of poppies are then donated to the Poppy Appeal, so you can feel good about your purchases. Plus, the store offers a student discount.

If you're not able to purchase anything from the Poppy Shop, you can also support the charity by buying products from other charities. For example, Beaming Baby, based in Totnes, Devon, and Compass Cultura, a paid journalism website, both donate a portion of their profits to the charity. Meanwhile, a food company owned by Paul Newman, the son of actor Richard Burton, donates 100% of its profits to the charity. Lastly, a wine and cheese company, Innocent Drinks, gives 10% of its annual profits to the Poppy Appeal.

With the help of the Poppy Shop, you can enjoy lifelong support from the Armed Forces community. Whether you're shopping for a loved one, yourself, or a friend, you'll find a range of products that are suitable for every occasion.

Does UniDays do Poppy Shop discount?

Student discounts are getting bigger all the time, particularly in the UK where us Britons love to drive a hard bargain. Saving money is becoming more and more difficult; it is hard to know where to start.

Thankfully, websites like UNiDAYS and StudentBeans are here to help. But they require login or authentication – often it's hard to remember your login details from your student email account. Nowadays most students use this login ONLY for scoring discounts... it all seems so silly.

Here at Student-Discount we don't require you to login to view Poppy Shop discounts or any other promotions. You can get them above, at any time of day, and our website will always be open and not being a paywall or login screen.
